Windows 8 and Microsoft Office 2010

I just upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 Pro. I did not uninstall Office 2010 beforehand. Now when I attempt to run Office 2010, I get a pop-up window giving me three options to choose from:

I already purchased Office 2010
Go online to purchase Office 2010
Use Office Starter 2010

I click on the first one to activate office 2010 since I already purchased it back in June 2012 and activated it then. I get another pop-up: To install Microsoft Office 2010 you must have a valid product key. Product keys for earlier versions of Office are not valid.

Since I had office 2010 installed prior to upgrading to windows 8 I entered the product key again. It comes back telling me that the key is not a valid Office Product Key.

I was not aware of any issues or having to do anything with office 2010 prior to upgrading to windows 8. I would appreciate any and all help in fixing this problem and avoiding losing any documents, powerpoints, excel files being deleted as I get this problem with office 2010 and windows corrected.

Thank you;
Mike M.

Strike Could Strand Interislander Ferry Passengers... | Stuff.co.nz

Interislander ferry passengers and freight companies could find themselves stuck on dry land next month after a breakdown in pay talks between KiwiRail and two of its employee unions.

The Merchant Service Guild (MSG) and the Aviation and Marine Engineers Association (AMEA) say they will both strike for a week from December 1 if KiwiRail does not relinquish its stance on "clawing back" conditions like long service pay.

AMEA represents 70 engineering officers and MSG represents 54 deck officers. If they were to strike then all sailings between Wellington and Picton would be suspended.

KiwiRail predicts about 14,000 passengers, 4000 cars and about 20,000 rail wagons and a similar number of trucks would be disrupted.

MSG president Captain Lew Henderson said he was hopeful the unions could sort out their differences with KiwiRail before the stop-work deadline. But if not, his members were "steadfast" in their resolution to take action, he said.

"This is our very last resort. We understand how big an impact this will have on people in New Zealand. We know there will be an impact on the people who travel but also on the goods that people send across Cook Strait.

"We haven't taken this decision lightly . . . but in the end, we see this as the only way of forcing the company to come back to the negotiating table with a reasonable stance."

Mr Henderson said the unions and KiwiRail had been bargaining since February and were disappointed the issue had not been sorted much earlier.

KiwiRail's initial proposal would have seen wages cuts by 30 per cent, but the parties had since negotiated their way to a common ground, which Mr Henderson declined to reveal.

But KiwiRail still wanted to reduce service increments so employees could not receive pay increases after being employed for certain periods of time, such as five and 10 years, he said.

"The company dealt with a retention problem some years ago . . . with a [pay] increase that was a little bit more than norm at the time.

"But the company is now clawing back on those types of payments, and they're really asking for the same problem to occur. We're keen to ensure that doesn't happen."

Mr Henderson said union members worked 12 hours a day, seven days a week and must remain on the ship for the full seven days, as well as being available in the event of an emergency.

"Essentially, our members are on the job for 168 hours per week. They are captive; they can't go home to their families or pursue other interests for that week. The fact that they are week on and then have a week off doesn't compensate for the captive nature of this job."

KiwiRail's Interislander general manager Thomas Davis said he was disappointed to receive strike notice.

Customers could change or cancel bookings that fell within the strike period with a full refund available if required, he said.

Alzheimer's survey shows it's the disease most feared, tops cancer ...

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) - There are a number of diseases that are deadly, but a new survey show Alzheimer's is the one people fear the most, even topping cancer. More than half of the people surveyed by the?Marist Institute?say they feel unprepared to care for a loved one diagnosed with the disease.

"There's an estimated 35 and a half million cases worldwide, and here in the United States alone are five and a half million of those cases. Locally, there's 80,000 cases here in South Carolina, and only about half of those are in nursing homes. So families have a huge concern because they're caring for family members," explains Melissa Tresslar with?Home Instead Senior Care.

Tresslar says according to the World Health Organization the number of those diagnosed with?Alzheimer's?is expected to double in the next 15 years.

Tresslar knows first hand what it's like when a loved one is diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Through her work with Home Instead Senior Care, she helps educate families who are dealing with the disease.

"Alzheimer's Disease is one of the top 10 causes of death, and it's the only top ten cause of death that has no treatment or no cure at this point in time," she says. "Alzheimer's Disease leads to nerve cell death and tissue loss in the brain. A person living with Alzheimer's, it affects thinking, behavior, movement, pretty much every aspect of life. And to keep that person engaged in life and to manage the difficult behaviors that come along with that thinking and memory issue, we teach the techniques to help family members manage those and for that senior to have a fulfilling life at home."

According to Tresslar, studies show only about five percent of cases of Alzheimer's are hereditary. When they are, the disease tends to progress quickly.

Because of the growing concern, they're offering workshops to help families who are the primary caregivers. Home Instead Senior Care is holding its next free workshop for families November 28 at 2 p.m. To reserve your seat call (843) 357-9777.

But if home care is too much, place like?Brightwater?are available. The assisted living facility has a special wing devoted to patients with dementia. Because of the needs of these patients, Brightwater offers specialized care.

"They're still loving they're still giving. That's the beautiful side of it. Even though they may not remember what they had for lunch today, they still love hugs. They're still thoughtful of each other, and they still like to do activities," says Charlene Adelstone with Brightwater.

Brightwater offers support groups for families.
