NBA's Michael Jordan marries ex-model over weekend

Michael Jordan got married over the weekend, with Tiger Woods, Spike Lee and Patrick Ewing among those attending the NBA Hall of Famer's wedding in Palm Beach, Fla.

Jordan married 35-year-old former model Yvette Prieto on Saturday, manager Estee Portnoy told The Associated Press on Sunday.

The 50-year-old Jordan owns the Charlotte Bobcats.

Nearly 300 guests were present as they exchanged vows. The reception took place at a private golf club in Jupiter designed by Jack Nicklaus. Jordan owns a home near the course.

Entertainment included DJ MC Lyte, singers K'Jon, Robin Thicke and Grammy Award winner Usher and The Source, an 18-piece band.

The six-time NBA champion and Prieto met five years ago and were engaged last December.

Jordan had three children with former wife Juanita Vanoy. The couple's divorce was finalized in December 2006.

LG unveils Optimus GK in Korea, brings G Pro features in a 5inch package

Not tired of seeing different versions of the Optimus G? LG has just revealed another variant for Korean customers: the Optimus GK. Similar to the one-off Optimus G Pro it delivered in Japan on NTT DoCoMo, this handset has features pinched from the 5.5-inch Pro (1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 CPU, 2GB RAM) squeezed into a more-pocketable 5-inch frame. The 1080p screen here (440PPI) is Full HD IPS like the one we're expecting to see in AT&T's Optimus G Pro in a few days, matched a 3,100mAh battery, 16GB of storage, microSD slot and 13MP/2MP rear/front camera setup. This particular variant had been rumored to launch at MWC but is only now being announced for Korean carrier KT, we'll see how many more twists LG can wring out of the Optimus G platform before delivering a true sequel later this year.

problem with receive fax of the clients - Elastix Forums :: Open ...

qvicio,

If you are using an E1, forget about t38 for faxes. You are using digital lines and probably one of the most reliable setups for faxing.

What I believe is occurring is that you are getting the faxing methods confused. There are two main fax methods in Elastix, one by default which is Fax for Asterisk (FFA) and what the configuration information is for in Freepbx - so the setup in freepbx is for that.

The other which is what I use on all systems is the Elastix Fax system, which is based on HYLAFAX.

FIrstly you setup IAX extensions such as 1100, 1101, 1102, 1103 (with passwords).

You setup multiple TTYIAX modems (which is actually done when you setup Fax Modems under Elastix Fax). Each Virtual modem setup with ask the information that you setup for the IAX modems e.g. extension and password.

Lastly, you point a range of DID's to each of the IAX extensions. Provide those DID's to your clients that want to fax you, and start receiving faxes....

This works 100% in full production and works reliably....

Regards

Bob

Scientists at the Arkansas Children's Nutrition Center, a U.S. Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service Human Nutrition Research Center at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, led by Dr. Martin Ronis have determined that dietary substitution of saturated fats enriched in medium chain triglycerides (MCT) for polyunsaturated fat prevents the development of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). NAFLD occurs in patients with obesity and type II diabetes and is being seen at younger ages in association with the obesity epidemic. NAFLD is characterized by excessive accumulation of fat in the liver. In a proportion of NAFLD cases, liver pathology progresses to hepatitis, fibrosis and liver cancer. The findings which appear in the February 2013 issue of Experimental Biology and Medicine used a laboratory animal model of NAFLD to demonstrate that isocaloric substitution of a mixture of MCT rich saturated fats for of dietary polyunsaturated fats prevented liver fat accumulation. In addition progression of injury was blocked as a result of reduced susceptibility of lipids to radical attack and increased basal metabolic rate produced by activation of PPAR signaling.

"There is a real shortage of potential therapies for NAFLD short of weight loss and increased exercise" states Dr. Ronis. "In this study, we show that even if total dietary fat content remains high and excess calories continue to be consumed, the metabolic effects of MCT to change liver lipid profiles and increase respiration can prevent the development of liver pathology". Although complete substitution of MCT oil for vegetable oils in cooking is not feasible as a result of its low smoking point, the studies demonstrated that the protective effects of MCT were dose-dependent.

Dr. Ronis states that "Future studies will be designed to determine if MCT rich diets can reverse NAFLD and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis in disease models, and if successful, clinical trials may be initiated in patients with metabolic syndrome." Dr. Ronis states that "the technology to produce synthetic cooking oils incorporating MCT is already with us. The Japanese are currently testing an oil containing monounsaturated 18:1 fatty acids and MCT for beneficial health effects. There is no reason why similar synthetic products incorporating saturated fatty acids such as 16:0 or 18:0 and MCT cannot be developed for the US market".

Dr. Steven R. Goodman, Editor-in-Chief of Experimental Biology and Medicine, said "with obesity and type II diabetes on the rise development of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) that can lead to hepatitis, fibrosis and liver cancer is an increasing problem. Dr. Martin Ronis and colleagues using an animal model of NAFLD have shown that substitution of saturated fat in the form of medium chain triglycerides (MCT) for polyunsaturated fats can prevent the progression of NAFLD-associated liver injury. As pointed out by Ronis and colleagues this provides a potential future therapy for NAFLD where we simply alter our cooking oils to contain therapeutic levels of MCTs."

CA-NEWS Summary

Train plot suspect rejects Canadian law, cites "holy book"

TORONTO (Reuters) - One of two men accused in an alleged al Qaeda-backed plan to derail a passenger train in Canada appeared in court on Wednesday and disputed the authority of Canadian law to judge him, saying the criminal code was not a holy book. Chiheb Esseghaier, a Tunisian-born doctoral student, faces charges that include conspiracy to murder and working with a terrorist group.

Congress demands more FBI answers on Boston bomb suspect

WASHINGTON/CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts (Reuters) - U.S. lawmakers demanded more answers on the Boston Marathon bombing on Wednesday, unsatisfied with the FBI reaction to warnings about one suspect and expressing doubt about the other suspect's claims that he and his dead brother acted alone. Some on Capitol Hill questioned whether the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other U.S. security agencies failed to share information about suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev in 2011, even after reforms enacted to prevent information-hoarding following the September 11 hijacked plane attacks 12 years ago.

Iraq on edge after raid fuels deadly Sunni unrest

BAGHDAD, Iraq (Reuters) - More than 30 people were killed in gun battles between Iraqi forces and militants on Wednesday, a day after a raid on a Sunni Muslim protest ignited the fiercest clashes since American troops left the country. The second day of fighting threatens to deepen sectarian rifts in Iraq where relations between Shi'ite and Sunni Muslims are still very tense just a few years after inter-communal slaughter pushed the country close to civil war.

In Myanmar, cheap SIM card draw may herald telecoms revolution

YANGON (Reuters) - Introduced a decade and a half ago under Myanmar's former military rulers, SIM cards sold for as much as $7,000 apiece. Today, they still cost more than $200. From Thursday, lucky winners of a lottery-style sale may get one for as little as $2. This is telecoms deregulation, Myanmar-style.

Baghdad car bomb kills eight people: police

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - At least eight people were killed and 23 more wounded when a car bomb exploded in eastern Baghdad, police and medical sources said on Wednesday. No one claimed responsibility for the blast, but Iraq's al Qaeda wing and other Sunni Islamist insurgents often hit the capital in their campaign to undermine the country's Shi'ite-led government.

Analysis: Iran's unlikely al Qaeda ties: fluid, murky and deteriorating

LONDON (Reuters) - When al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri spoke in an audio message broadcast to supporters earlier this month, he had harsh words for Iran. Its true face, he said, had been unmasked by its support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against fighters loyal to al Qaeda. Yet it is symptomatic of the peculiar relationship between Tehran and al Qaeda that in the same month Canadian police would accuse "al Qaeda elements in Iran" of backing a plot to derail a passenger train.

Egyptian judges accuse Mursi backers of attacking their independence

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egyptian judges accused President Mohamed Mursi's Muslim Brotherhood on Wednesday of trying to clamp down on judicial independence by conducting a campaign ostensibly aimed at rooting out corruption. A rift between Egypt's Islamist rulers and the judiciary is steadily widening amid a broader struggle over the future character of the country following the 2011 uprising that overthrew autocratic President Hosni Mubarak.

Syrian army seizes strategic town near capital

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syrian forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad seized a strategic town east of Damascus on Wednesday, breaking a critical weapons supply route for the rebels, activists and fighters said. Rebels have held several suburbs ringing the southern and eastern parts Damascus for months, but they have been struggling to maintain their positions against a ground offensive backed by fierce army shelling and air strikes in recent weeks.

China's Xinjiang says "terrorist" ax, knife and arson attack kills 21

BEIJING (Reuters) - A confrontation involving axes, knives, at least one gun and ending with the burning down of a house left 21 people dead in China's troubled far-west region of Xinjiang, a government spokeswoman said on Wednesday, calling it a "terrorist attack". It was the deadliest violence in the region since July 2009, when Xinjiang's capital, Urumqi, was rocked by clashes between majority Han Chinese and minority Uighurs that killed nearly 200 people.

Italy president names center-left's Letta as new premier

ROME (Reuters) - Italian President Giorgio Napolitano on Wednesday asked center-left politician Enrico Letta to form a new government, signaling the end of a damaging two-month stalemate since elections in the euro zone's third largest economy in February. Letta, from the Democratic Party (PD), said he would start talks to form a broad-based coalition on Thursday. It is likely to go to parliament for a vote of confidence by early next week.

Workflowy (for iPhone)

The Workflowy app for iPhone offers a lovely and quick way to make nested lists, which you can use to jot down your to-dos, shopping list, work assignments, or whatever you like. Items on your lists can be marked "complete" and crossed off, suggesting that this app is meant to be a task manager. However, it falls short in that department because it lacks the ability to add due dates or see your to-dos in a calendar view. Despite a few shortcomings, I found its balance of simplicity and interactive design charming. Its potential uses are infinite, and the Workflowy iPhone app is poised to be great quite soon if the developers can implement a few fairly minor tweaks in upcoming version releases.

What is Workflowy?
The Workflowy iPhone app has a companion Web app of the same name. Whichever version you use, you'll need a Workflowy account (free to $49 per year for Pro). Workflowy lets you create nested lists, which sync between the two apps. In its concept, it reminds me in some ways of distraction-free text editors, such as Writebox and Writebox Mac app, which provide an austere workspace so that you can focus and write. There isn't much glitter and glitzy, which I like. It's straightforward, clean, intuitive, and almost endearing in how simple it is.

As a to-do list, Workflowy deserves a knock or two for not having deadlines and reminders of upcoming deadlines. When I reached out to the Workflowy team to ask about this missing feature, a rep explained that some users leverage hashtags for due dates?that is, they'll create a tag like #12-04-13 and sort by the day's tag to find everything due. The problems with this workaround are 1) it's a workaround and 2) you have to seek out the information, rather than it coming to you, which is how time-dated reminders should work.

Basic Features
To use Workflowy, you simply start typing. Drop the cursor where you want it on the screen using your finger, as you would with any other text-editing app for iPhone. I started using the Workflowy mobile app after already setting up an account online, and I was happy to see all my data sync to my iPhone without a hitch. The Web app requires an Internet connection to work, but the iPhone app works offline.

If you enter new text, it turns into a bullet point. You can add more bullets, sub-bullets (nested items), as well as a note, which appears directly below the attached item in a slightly different font. You can mark complete (i.e., cross out) any item by putting the cursor on that item and tapping a green "Complete" button at the top of the page.

The Web app version of Workflowy has a few features that aren't in the iPhone app, such as the ability to drag items up or down to rearrange them; and export, share (via a link), duplicate, and delete any item by accessing a little menu attached to the bullet point itself. To squeeze in these features, the iPhone app might need some design tweaks, as it already exhibits some "fat-finger" problems. Buttons are small and hard to see when fingers reach for the screen, and some buttons are too close together, making it tough to accurately press where you intended. I do like two little arrow buttons at the top of the page that let you move a bullet in one step or outward to nest it or pull it out one hierarchical level.

Describing Workflowy in words doesn't really capture its true elegance. I've collected some images from the iPhone app in the slideshow above and created a quick video of the Web app so you can see it in action:

(Again, bear in mind that the iPhone app doesn't have all the same features as the Web app.)

Freemium
You can sign up for Workflowy for free, but the free version has limitations. It only allows 500 lists or "items" per month, two choices for typeface (a generic serif and sans serif), no options for background theme, and no connectivity with Dropbox to backup your account. Pro accounts, on the other hand, can be backed up to Dropbox, contain an unlimited number of lists, and have a range of options in themes and typefaces. There are two kinds of pro accounts: Individual ($4.99 per month or $49 per year) and Team ($3.99 per month per user, or $39 per year per user, with a two user minimum). Team accounts include support for collaborative editing.

Workflowy's Got Flow
The compelling simplicity of the Workflowy iPhone app makes it appealing to use and keep using. It's quick and responsive, yet uncluttered and elegant. New users may find they adore the app but aren't sure what to do with it (a perennial problem for one of my all-time favorite apps Evernote, too, by the way). If one of its primary intended purposes is to be a to-do list or task-management app?and judging by what else is included, it is?then it needs to add due dates, reminders, and a calendar view. Workflowy for iPhone is poised for greatness soon with a few tweaks, but solid enough to use now, too.

With New Ad Units, Vibrant Media Comes To Smartphones And Tablets

vibrant cross platformVibrant Media, which powers in-text ads and other contextual ad products, is going cross-platform today with the launch of a number of new units. Some of those ad units are entirely new to Vibrant's lineup, while others take the company's desktop ads and optimize them for touch interactions. CEO Cella Irvine told me that there's growing interest from ad agencies in campaigns that span desktops, smartphones, and tablets, and also in mobile-specific campaigns. Some of Vibrant's existing ad units already worked on mobile, she said, but they weren't really designed for non-desktop devices. The goal with today's launch is to make sure "the experience is native to the device."

Development could transform everything from airplanes and bridges to body armor and bicycles

University of Nebraska-Lincoln materials engineers have developed a structural nanofiber that is both strong and tough, a discovery that could transform everything from airplanes and bridges to body armor and bicycles.

Their findings are featured on the cover of this week's April issue of the American Chemical Society's journal, ACS Nano.

"Whatever is made of composites can benefit from our nanofibers," said the team's leader, Yuris Dzenis, McBroom Professor of Mechanical and Materials Engineering and a member of UNL's Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience.

"Our discovery adds a new material class to the very select current family of materials with demonstrated simultaneously high strength and toughness."

In structural materials, conventional wisdom holds that strength comes at the expense of toughness. Strength refers to a material's ability to carry a load. A material's toughness is the amount of energy needed to break it; so the more a material dents, or deforms in some way, the less likely it is to break. A ceramic plate, for example, can carry dinner to the table, but shatters if dropped, because it lacks toughness. A rubber ball, on the other hand, is easily squished out of shape, but doesn't break because it's tough, not strong. Typically, strength and toughness are mutually exclusive.

Dzenis and colleagues developed an exceptionally thin polyacrilonitrile nanofiber, a type of synthetic polymer related to acrylic, using a technique called electrospinning. The process involves applying high voltage to a polymer solution until a small jet of liquid ejects, resulting in a continuous length of nanofiber.

They discovered that by making the nanofiber thinner than had been done before, it became not only stronger, as was expected, but also tougher.

Dzenis suggested that toughness comes from the nanofibers' low crystallinity. In other words, it has many areas that are structurally unorganized. These amorphous regions allow the molecular chains to slip around more, giving them the ability to absorb more energy.

Most advanced fibers have fewer amorphous regions, so they break relatively easily. In an airplane, which uses many composite materials, an abrupt break could cause a catastrophic crash. To compensate, engineers use more material, which makes airplanes, and other products, heavier.

"If structural materials were tougher, one could make products more lightweight and still be very safe," Dzenis said.

Body armor, such as bulletproof vests, also requires a material that's both strong and tough. "To stop the bullet, you need the material to be able to absorb energy before failure, and that's what our nanofibers will do," he said.

###

Dzenis' co-authors are mechanical and materials engineering colleagues Dimitry Papkov, Yan Zou, Mohammad Nahid Andalib and Alexander Goponenko in UNL's Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, and Stephen Z.D. Cheng of the University of Akron.

This research was funded by the National Science Foundation, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research and a U.S. Army Research Office Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative grant.

French president: Libya bomb targets all countries

PARIS (AP) ? French President Francois Hollande says that the car bomb that exploded at the French embassy in Tripoli targets not only France but "all countries in the international community engaged fighting terrorism."

In a statement Tuesday morning, Hollande said "France expects the Libyan authorities to shed the fullest light on this unacceptable act, so that the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice."

Hollande says that a foreign ministry representative will be sent to Tripoli to take "necessary measures" and to ensure the repatriation to French soil of the two French guards who were injured, to whom he addressed a message of solidarity.

Hospitalized suspect in Boston bombings awaits charges

By Svea Herbst-Bayliss and Scott Malone

BOSTON (Reuters) - The ethnic Chechen college student suspected with his deceased older brother in the Boston Marathon bombing faced federal charges as early as Monday as he lay hospitalized under armed guard, severely wounded and unable to speak.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, was captured with throat injuries that, coupled with sedatives administered at the Boston hospital where he is being treated, had left him incapable of speech and initially prevented authorities from questioning him.

Late on Sunday, media reported he was awake and responding in writing to questions at Boston's Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. But Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis told CNN he could not confirm that.

"We're very anxious to talk to him and the investigators will be doing that as soon as possible," Davis said.

Tsarnaev's capture on Friday night ended a manhunt that virtually shut down greater Boston for some 20 hours. His older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, was pronounced dead after a gunfight with police a day earlier.

Investigators are seeking, among things, to determine whether the two suspects acted alone.

Boston's police commissioner and mayor have both said they believed the brothers were on their own.

"I am confident that they were the two major actors in the violence that occurred," Davis told CNN on Sunday.

Davis also said investigators have discovered at least four undetonated devices, one of them similar to the two pressure cooker bombs set off at the Boston Marathon, and that he believed the suspects were planning additional attacks.

Still, much of investigators' attention has focused on a trip to Russia last year by Tamerlan Tsarnaev, and whether he became involved with or was influenced by Chechen separatists or Islamist extremists there.

The brothers emigrated to the United States a decade ago from Dagestan, a predominantly Muslim region in Russia's Caucasus.

They are accused of planting and setting off two homemade bombs near the crowded finish line of the Boston Marathon last Monday, killing three people and injuring more than 170 others.

U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz, the federal prosecutor for the Boston area, was preparing criminal charges against the younger Tsarnaev, a naturalized U.S. citizen, according to Davis. It was not clear when charges would be filed, but it could as early as Monday.

TRIP TO RUSSIA

Tamerlan Tsarnaev traveled to Moscow in January 2012 and spent six months in Dagestan, a law enforcement source said. Neighbors in Makhachkala, the region's capital city, said he kept a low profile while visiting there last summer, helping his father renovate an apartment unit..

That trip, combined with Russian interest in Tamerlan communicated to U.S. authorities and an FBI interview of him in 2011, have raised questions whether danger signals were missed.

A group leading an Islamist insurgency against Russia said on Sunday it was not at war with the United States, distancing itself from the Boston bombings. The insurgency is rooted in two separatist wars that Russian troops waged against Chechen separatists following the fall of the Soviet Union.

BLOOD-SPATTERED

Photos and video footage of the Tsarnaev brothers, allegedly in the act of planting bombs at the marathon, were first circulated by the FBI on Thursday with an appeal for help in locating the then-unidentified pair.

Police say the suspects shot dead a campus police officer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge later that night, then hijacked a sport utility vehicle before opening fire and hurling explosives at pursuing law enforcement.

During this confrontation, according to police, a transit police officer was badly injured and the older Tsarnaev, walking toward officers and firing until he ran out of ammunition, was tackled by police, only to be struck by the SUV as his brother sped away in the vehicle.

The younger Tsarnaev later abandoned the vehicle and vanished, leading authorities to impose a lockdown on the city of Boston and surrounding communities before he was found and arrested in the suburb of Watertown the following night.

He turned up spattered with blood and hiding inside a covered boat parked in a back yard.

Students returning to campus on Sunday at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, where Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was enrolled, recalled seeing him back in the dorm, at class and even working out in the gym a day or two after the bombings before realizing he was suspected in the crime.

The brothers spent their early years in a small community of Chechens in the central Asian country of Kyrgyzstan, a mainly Muslim nation of 5.5 million. They moved in 2001 to Dagestan.

The men's parents, who moved back to southern Russia some time ago, have said their sons were framed.

Intranasal neuropeptide Y may offer therapeutic potential for post-traumatic stress disorder

Apr. 21, 2013 ? Stress triggered neuropsychiatric disorders take an enormous personal, social and economic toll on society. In the US more than half of adults are exposed to at least one traumatic event throughout their lives. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating anxiety disorder associated with exposure to a traumatic event outside the range of normal human experience. PTSD typically follows a chronic, often lifelong, course. Patients have diminished quality of life, are more likely to manifest other psychiatric disorders such as depression and six times more likely as demographically matched controls to attempt suicide. Prevention and treatment of PTSD remains a challenge with improved therapies needed to help save billions of dollars in medical care and provide enormous society benefit.

Based on a variety of studies in humans and animals it has been suggested that neuropeptide Y (NPY), a peptide that acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain, has therapeutic potential for PTSD. This naturally occurring peptide is one of the widely expressed inside and outside of the brain with diverse functions. Human studies indicate that NPY is associated with resilience to development of PTSD or helps improve recovery from harmful effects of traumatic stress. Injections into the brain of rodents attenuated some of the behavioral responses related to stress associated neuropsychiatric disorders. However systemic administration of NPY will likely have undesirable side effects, especially on the cardiovascular system.

This study delivered NPY to rats by intranasal infusion, a non-invasive procedure to bypass the blood brain barrier. A single infusion was administered 30 min before or immediately after exposure to single prolonged stress (SPS). Behavioral, neuroendocrine and biochemical analyses were performed 1 to 3 weeks after SPS and compared to untreated controls or to animals infused with the solution without NPY. The SPS-elicited elevation in anxiety, depressive-like behavior and hyper-arousal was reduced in the animals given intranasal NPY, and some of the features were the same as in the animals not exposed to the stress. There was a lower stress triggered rise in plasma stress hormones, such as glucocorticoids and in expression of their receptor in the hippocampus in the NPY treated animals. Intranasal NPY also modulated the response of the brain noradrenergic system to the traumatic stress of SPS.

The results demonstrated, for the first time, that rapid delivery of NPY to the brain by intranasal infusion, before or shortly after exposure to traumatic stress, has a pronounced resilient effect and ameliorates development of PTSD-like symptoms in rats. It provides proof of concept for potential of intranasal NPY for non-invasive prophylactic treatment for individuals likely to be exposed to traumatic stress, such as early responders or military personnel, as well as for early intervention after exposure to traumatic stress.

These research findings will be presented April 21st, 2013 during Experimental Biology 2013 in Boston, MA

Hospitalized suspect in Boston bombings awaits charges

By Scott Malone

BOSTON (Reuters) - The badly wounded Boston Marathon bombing suspect faced federal charges as early as Monday and the city of Boston planned tributes to the dead after a week of blasts, shootouts, lockdowns and one of the largest manhunts in U.S. history.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, an ethnic Chechen college student suspected of carrying out the attacks with his older brother, lay in a Boston hospital under armed guard. He was unable to speak after he was captured with throat injuries sustained during shoot-outs with police.

Police declined to comment on media reports he was communicating with authorities in writing.

"There have been widely published reports that he is (communicating silently). I wouldn't dispute that, but I don't have any specific information on that myself," Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis told CNN. "We're very anxious to talk to him and the investigators will be doing that as soon as possible."

The FBI said on Monday morning that Tsarnaev remained in serious condition at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Tsarnaev's capture on Friday night ended a manhunt that virtually shut down greater Boston for some 20 hours. His older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, died after a gunfight with police early Friday morning.

The city of Boston crawled back to normal on Monday, a week after twin bombs exploded at the crowded finish line of the city's famous marathon road race, killing three people and wounding 176. Ten of the injured lost limbs.

The crime scene around the blasts was still closed but was expected to reopen within a day or two. Signs declaring "Boston Strong" hung about the city.

Memorial services were set on Monday for two of those killed in the bombings: Krystle Campbell, a 29-year-old restaurant manager, and Chinese graduate student Lingzi Lu.

An 8-year-old boy, Martin Richard, was also killed.

PAUSE AT TIME OF BOMBINGS

The city also planned to pause at 2:50 p.m. EDT to mark the moment a week ago when the two bombs made of pressure cookers and packed with nails and ball bearings tore through the crowd watching runners complete the Boston Marathon.

In the days that followed, investigators examining thousands of images from surveillance video, media coverage and spectators taking pictures were able to pick out two men as suspects, later identified as the Tsarnaev brothers.

On Tuesday, the day after the attack, the younger Tsarnaev was working out in the gym at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, listening to music on his iPod, when he struck up a conversation with fellow sophomore Zach Bettencourt.

Bettencourt said he and Tsarnaev chatted about the bombings.

"It's crazy this is happening now," Bettencourt recalled Tsarnaev telling him. "This (these bombings) is so easy to do. These tragedies happen all the time in Afghanistan and Iraq."

Police said the Tsarnaev brothers made enough additional bombs for them to believe that more attacks were planned. They were also armed with handguns. A shootout with police in the Boston suburb of Watertown early Friday morning left more than 200 spent shell casings in the street.

Neither Tsarnaev brother was licensed to own guns in the towns where they lived, Cambridge, Massachusetts, authorities said on Sunday.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev could be charged with several crimes including use of weapons of mass destruction, terrorism and bombing of places of public use in addition to homicide, said former federal prosecutor and University of Notre Dame law professor Jimmy Gurul?.

Because death resulted, each statute authorizes the death penalty, he said.

Though the case is likely to involve officials at the highest levels including Attorney General Eric Holder, the prosecutor in charge will be Carmen Ortiz, the U.S. attorney for the district of Massachusetts.

Ortiz has faced criticism for coming down too hard on some defendants, but that approach may become a legal asset for the biggest case of her career, said attorneys who have faced off against her.

The Tsarnaev brothers emigrated to the United States a decade ago from Dagestan, a predominantly Muslim region in Russia's Caucasus. The men's parents, who moved back to southern Russia some time ago, have said their sons were framed.

Much of investigators' attention has focused on a trip to Russia last year by Tamerlan Tsarnaev, and whether he became involved with or was influenced by Chechen separatists or Islamist extremists there.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev traveled to Moscow in January 2012 and spent six months in Dagestan, a law enforcement source said. Neighbors in Makhachkala, the region's capital city, said he kept a low profile while visiting there last summer, helping his father renovate an apartment unit.

That trip, combined with Russian interest in Tamerlan communicated to U.S. authorities and an FBI interview of him in 2011, have raised questions whether danger signals were missed.

French gay marriage foes demonstrate in Paris

PARIS (AP) ? Tens of thousands of demonstrators have taken to sunny Paris boulevards to protest a bill that would legalize gay marriage.

The march wound its way across the Left Bank and was expected to culminate in a gathering on the vast Invalides esplanade Sunday evening.

A heavy police presence was deployed along the route. Previous anti-gay marriage protests in recent weeks have degenerated into violence. A counterdemonstration by those in favor of the bill was organized across the Seine river on the large Bastille square.

Polls have shown a narrow majority of French support legalizing gay marriage, though that support falls when questions about adoption and conception of children come into play.

Italian protest party: people fed up with politics

ROME (AP) ? A day after Italy's president was re-elected to an unprecedented second term, the leader of an anti-establishment movement says citizens' patience with traditional parties is wearing thin.

Beppe Grillo, a comic who heads the Five Star Movement, has dismissed President Giorgio Napolitano's re-election as a bid by doomed parties to hang onto power.

Grillo, whose party is the No. 3 bloc in Parliament, predicted in Rome on Sunday that traditional parties would "last a year."

The mainstream blocs are still bickering over how to form the next government two months after inconclusive national elections. Napolitano was re-elected Saturday after Parliament's mainstream parties couldn't agree on a new personality. Napolitano could tap someone to try to form a governing coalition this week.

Hagel stresses Israel's right to strike Iran

JERUSALEM (AP) ? U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel held out hope Sunday for a nonmilitary way to ending the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran, but he also emphasized Washington's willingness to let Israel decide whether and when it might strike Tehran in self-defense.

Hagel, on his first visit to Israel as Pentagon chief, seemed intent on burying the image that Republican critics painted of him as insufficiently supportive of the Jewish state. That portrayal was central to a failed campaign to derail Hagel's Senate confirmation in February.

In an interview with reporters on his flight from Washington, Hagel said the United States and Israel see "exactly the same" threat from Iran, which he described as a toxic combination of nuclear ambition and support for terrorism.

But he acknowledged differences on when it may reach the point of requiring U.S. or Israeli military action.

Hagel stressed repeatedly that Israel has a sovereign right to decide for itself whether it must attack Iran. He made no mention of the possibility that an Israeli attack would draw the U.S. into the conflict and lead to a wider regional war.

"Israel will make the decision that Israel must make to protect itself, to defend itself," Hagel said as he began a weeklong tour of the Middle East.

Also Sunday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was in Istanbul, where he urged Turkey to speed up and cement an American-brokered rapprochement with Israel. On a trip to Israel last month, President Barack Obama secured a pledge from Turkish and Israeli leaders to normalize ties that broke down after a 2010 Israeli raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla.

Hagel said international penalties are taking a heavy toll on Iran, though he said no one can be sure that economic coercion will compel Iran to change course.

Referring to sanctions and diplomacy, Hagel said, "these other tracks do have some time to continue to try to influence the outcome in Iran."

Hagel acknowledged that while Israel and the U.S. share a commitment to ensuring that Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon, there "may well be some differences" between the two allies on the question of when Iran's leaders might decide to go for a bomb.

"When you back down into the specifics of the timing of when and if Iran decides to pursue a nuclear weapon, there may well be some differences," he said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tends to see more urgency, reflecting in part the fact that certain Iranian technological advances toward a nuclear weapon could put the program beyond the ability of the Israeli military to destroy it with airstrikes. U.S. forces have greater reach.

Hagel's first order of business upon arrival in Jerusalem was a guided tour of the Yad Vashem Holocaust history museum. He participated in a ceremony at the Hall of Remembrance and wrote an inscription in the guest book at a memorial for the 1.5 million Jewish children who perished in the Holocaust.

"There is no more poignant, more touching, more effective way to tell the story than this reality, as painful as it is, but it is a reality," he said after completing his visit. "It did happen, and we must prepare our future generations ... for a clear understanding that we must never allow this to happen again."

In his remarks while en route to Israel, Hagel repeatedly emphasized Israel's right of self-defense and stressed that military force ? by implication, Israeli or American ? remains an option of last resort.

"In dealing with Iran, every option must be on the table," he said.

During his two-day visit to Israel, Hagel was expected to further discuss a U.S. arms deal that would provide Israel with missiles for its fighter aircraft, plus KC-135 refueling planes that could be used in a long-range strike on a country such as Iran, as well as V-22 Osprey transport planes. He called the proposed sale a "very clear signal" to Iran.

"The bottom line is, Iran is a threat ? a real threat," he said.

Iran asserts that its nuclear program is designed entirely for nonmilitary purposes.

Yiftah Shapir, a military analyst at the Institute for National Security Studies think tank in Tel Aviv, said Hagel appeared eager to present a steady-as-she-goes attitude following his Senate confirmation battle.

"He's here to say, 'Folks, nothing has changed. We are still with you,'" Shapir said. "The goal is to deliver a relaxing message and to project business as usual."

Hagel suggested he holds hope that Iran's presidential election in June might change the trajectory of its nuclear drive.

After his talks in Israel, Hagel planned stops in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. Each is an important American ally in the Middle East, and each is worried by Syria's civil war.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE are part of a $10 billion proposed U.S. arms sale that includes Israel. The UAE would get about 26 F-16 fighters and it and Saudi Arabia would get advanced air-launched missiles.

Why do babies calm down when they are carried?

Apr. 18, 2013 ? Parents know that crying babies usually calm down when they are picked up and carried, but why is that? In a study published today, researchers from the RIKEN Brain Science Institute show that human babies and mouse pups alike automatically relax deeply when they are carried.

Their study, published in the journal Current Biology, is the first one to demonstrate that the infant calming response to maternal carrying is a coordinated set of nervous, motor and cardiac regulations. Kumi Kuroda and colleagues Gianluca Esposito and Sachine Yoshida, who carried out the research, propose that it might be an evolutionarily conserved, and essential, component of mother-infant interaction.

"This infant response reduces maternal burden of carrying and is beneficial for both the mother and the infant, " explains Kuroda.

In a series of experiments involving ECG measurements the team observed that the heart rates of babies greatly slow down immediately after they are picked up and carried. But this is not the case if they are simply held. Using a very small ECG system on non-anesthetized mouse pups they were able to observe the same phenomenon in mice.

Both human and mouse babies calm down and stop moving immediately after they are carried, and mouse pups stop emitting ultrasonic cries. Mouse pups also adopt the characteristic compact posture, with limbs flexed, seen in other mammals such as cats and lions.

The researchers determined that in mice this calming response is dependent on tactile inputs and proprioception, the ability to sense and understand body movement. They also report that it is mediated by the parasympathetic nervous system and a region of the brain called the cerebellum.

These findings have important implication for parenting and could contribute to preventing child abuse.

"Such proper understanding of infants would reduce frustration of parents and be beneficial, because unsoothable crying is major risk factor for child abuse," says Kuroda.

"Although our study was done on mothers, we believe that this is not specific to moms and can be used by any primary caregiver," add the authors.

I will provide a list of all Dragon species which exist in the world of Dragon Riders: Rebirth. All those marked with an asterisk are not accessible by any of our player controlled characters. There will be no arguing this decision.

Faerie Dragon - This Dragon is fairly small, standing only about ten feet at the shoulder. They have only a mildly powerful breath attack which is pure energy, but they are fast and can camouflage with nature when in extreme circumstances and danger.
(Link: http://whitneycarter.files.wordpress.co ... dragon.jpg)

Black Dragon - The Black Dragon is another small Dragon with no special properties to speak of. It has an ice breath attack, and is typically a mountain dwelling Dragon.
(Link: http://jennykellerford.files.wordpress. ... dragon.jpg)

* Hurricane Dragon - This mighty beast is enormous, standing over forty feet at the shoulder. It controls the power of the air currents around it to create powerful hurricanes and typhoons at will, but it rarely leaves the sanctity of the Sea.
(Link: http://th00.deviantart.net/fs20/PRE/f/2 ... imlock.jpg ((All credit goes to the artist)))

Cresthal Dragons - These Dragons stand over sixty feet at the shoulder, but have no breath attack. Instead they have powerful magic capabilities which far exceed anything any mortal creature could possibly muster.
(Link: http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/ ... 0-1024.jpg)

* Crawling Dragon - This Dragon stands just over thirty feet at the shoulder and has an incredibly powerful energy based breath attack.
(Link: http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs8/i/2005/2 ... chuang.jpg)

Sunset Dragon - This Dragon spends the majority of its time hiding away in caves until that mysterious time of Twilight. Once the sun begins to set and the sky turns orange, that is feeding time. They stand about fifteen to twenty feet at the shoulder. They have a powerful fire based breath attack.
(Link: http://images2.fanpop.com/image/photos/ ... 0-1024.jpg)

Fire-Wing Dragon - These Dragons have wings made of fire and have one of the most powerful fire based breath attacks in the Dragon Kingdom. They are exceedingly rare and require a very special individual to control their immense power. They stand at fifty feet at the shoulder.
(Link: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4vx9Xrel4Z4/T ... dragon.jpg)

Red Razorback Dragon - This Dragon has a sharp and distinct row of scaly spines along its back connected by thin tissue similar to that in their wings. They have no breath attack, but are immensely strong for their size. They are easily capable of pinning a Dragon twice their weight. They stand about fifteen feet at the shoulder.
(Link: http://www.draconika.com/img/red-dragon.jpg)

Green Dragon - These Dragons are about twelve feet at the shoulder and are exceedingly intelligent. They possess a mildly powerful ice based breath attack, and usually dwell within the forested regions.
(Link: http://www.draconika.com/img/green-dragon.jpg)

* Devil Dragon - This Dragon is one of a kind, and has existed beneath the surface of the world in a cave the size of a continent. It has only ever appeared once before in history, but was only driven back by the actions of the Divine Dragon. Should this evil, which stands over one hundred feet at the shoulder, ever rise again, there will not be much hope for the world unless something drastic takes place.
