2013 Shelby Ford Focus ST Revealed, Without Any Ground-Breaking Horsepower

The 2013 Shelby Ford Focus ST tuned by Shelby American, was unveiled at this year?s NAIAS. Shelby American Inc. has long been known to turn out the fire-breathing autos with powerful turbo-charged engines, but with its diminutive new ?pocket rocket,? the car company has altered things up a bit. This Focus ST was covered in a bright orange tarp just outside the media center. Shelby has indeed put their crazy hands all over Ford?s current hottest hatch ? but it?s not quite what we expected. Exterior changes incorporated are a new bonnet with extra RS-style vents, a Shelby rear wing and carbon-fibre inserts for the front and rear bumpers.

The identifiable Shelby lettering and a rear hydrocarbon spoiler give it a meaner look. As per the company, three visual graphics packages offered, which include traditional Shelby racing stripes?and more edgy Shelby checkered flag or competition graphics that have adorned tuned Mustangs for years. Shelby has yet to tweak the Focus ST?s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Shelby is currently developing ?an optional performance tune expected to significantly increase horsepower,? however it?s not on this thing.

As for the interior, the tuner has added a Shelby shifter and brand stitching on the seat covers. Shelby American said the production run would be limited to 500 cars per year. The Shelby Focus ST package starts at $14,995 (?9,300) without including the Ford Focus ST, which starts at $23,700 (?14,800) in the US, and will be limited to 500 examples per model year. The Focus ST is a phenomenal hot hatch in its own regard, but Shelby?s effort seems to be a bit disappointing on this one. These add-ons are fine, but they don?t make it the Focus? GT500 equivalent.
