Live-blog: East Coast surveys damage from Sandy

At least a dozen people have been killed and some six million residents are without power after the former Hurricane Sandy slammed into the northeast Atlantic coast on Monday evening. A record storm surge flooded streets and subways in Lower Manhattan and beyond. The now-weakened storm, estimated to be nearly 1,000 miles wide, is forecast to move toward the Great Lakes before swinging back to northeast over the next few days.
